People may like to watch crime movies or Westerns. How many people do you know who like to go to the mall, plaza, or beach and state that they like to people watch? How many people are nosey neighbors because they like to watch what is going on with the people around them? People love a movie because they like to watch characters/people. What people are actually referring to is that they enjoyed the characters, the problems/conflict the characters got into, and how the characters got out of the problems and conflict. People will state that a particular movie had a good plot or an intriguing story. Many people like a specific genre or two and will only watch movies in those genres. Having a movie labeled in a genre assists people to find a particular movie that they may be interested in watching. Being labeled in a genre is not a negative action. Some people will say that genres are labels that are given to stock movies, stating that these movies are routine. You have to be very specific in the discussion of movie terminology, sticking within the particular definition of the terms. Likewise, musicals and animation are not considered genres but rather “treatments” as to how a particular movie genre is told, even though people, over generations, refer to these types of movies as genres. These labels reflect or accentuate the movie genre rather than defining the genre. They are considered director’s style because their characteristics include cinematography and editing, which are not among the four elements that make up a genre. Film noir, thrillers, and action movies are not actually genres but a director’s style, which will be discussed in a later chapter. Other movie labels cannot be considered genres. Movies often have genres that overlap, such as adventure in a spy movie, or crime in a science fiction movie. The shaping determines the plot and best setting to use. If the movie elements are serious and cannot fit into a more limited genre, then it can be considered a drama.Ĭategorizing a movie indirectly assists in shaping the characters and the story of the movie. This is why this chapter is longer than the others because of the discussion of these variations.ĭrama can be considered a genre, even though some critics do not consider it a genre because it is too general. Other genres are crime, war, Westerns, spy, adventure, science fiction, horror, fantasy, biography, and mystery. The sub-genres of comedy differ from one another based on the fluctuations of the characters and the story. Some genres may be as general as comedy but do not have sub-genres like comedy. These elements are discussed regarding how their variations create a different category of movie. The above elements of story, plot, setting, and character equal a specific category of movie. An equation for remembering the genre is: Story ( Action) + Plot + Character + Setting = Genre. This becomes an easy way to remember the elements of a genre. Genre consists of four elements or parts: character, story, plot and setting. Putting a movie into a particular genre or category does not diminish the quality of the movie by assuming that if it can be put into a genre, the movie is ordinary and lacks originality and creativity. Categorizing movies makes it easier for the viewer to discover what he or she likes and will want to see. In other words, genre categorizes movies. Webster’s Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language defines genre as “a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content.” 5

Distinct cutoff of low beams, which keeps oncoming traffic from being blinded.Even distribution of light with little to no “hot spots” or intense and weak spots. When the high beams are engages, the solenoid drops the cutoff shield out of the way allowing all of the light the pass through, giving you full light output, or in other words, your high beams. The cutoff that you see above is for the low beams. The solenoid controls the high and low beams. Which leads me to the next component of the headlight, which is the solenoid. Without the cutoff shield, you’d get a more round light output shape, similar to a flashlight. You’ll probably recognize this, but here is a shot of the distinct barrier that a cutoff shield produces: The cutoff shield creates a distinct light barrier so that the light coming out of the headlight is concentrated out and down, and keeps the light from exiting out and up, which would blind oncoming traffic. The headlight manufacturers tune the headlights so that you get an exceptional experience. The lens is used to throw the light in a very precise and even manner. If the magnifying glass is held too closely, or too far away, the light spreads and the leaf doesn’t burn. If you line things up just right with the sunlight and a dry leaf, the magnifying glass lens will concentrate the sunlight to a fine point and the leaf will begin to burn and smoke. If you’ve ever been 9 years old, you know that when you take a magnifying glass outside on a sunny day you can have some fun. The distance the light source and reflector are from the lens determine the intensity and dissipation or concentration of the light.Īn easy way to wrap your head around this is to compare this to a handheld magnifying glass. The lens bends, spreads or concentrates the light. It’s a reflective half-sphere that throws the light from the light source in a specific direction. The reflector portion is similar to what you see in a flashlight. Not only the physical strain of trying to navigate major renovations while parts of the country were sheltering in place, but it was also the first major project Welborn undertook without his father. He also replaced all the doors and wood flooring, as well as installing LED lighting. Welborn had to gut it to put in new cases and energy-efficient refrigeration. Structurally, the building was in good shape, though it did need some major renovations. But we got it to work and opened on the last day of 2020.” “It was too good of an opportunity to pass it up because we were concerned about whether or not our warehouse could handle trying to take on that volume in the middle of everything in that period. “We were trying to figure everything out, how we could make it work,” he recalled. But Welborn said the store was available and intriguing. That couldn’t have been more apparent than during a global pandemic. “Yep, right in the middle of COVID-19,” Welborn said with a chuckle.Īs anybody opening a new business would know, there really is no ideal time to do it. Baker, and he and my dad saw things the same and they partnered up. “It was definitely something that I wanted to do, and I think it spurred him into looking at what the options were as we weren’t in a position to buy a store,” he said. Welborn said he and his father were discussing their own store and it got the latter’s “retail side flowing again.” He had previously worked in stores, visited them with his father and earn a degree in small company management and entrepreneurship from the University of Alabama.ī&W’s first store opened when he was starting college. Welborn was ready to take the reins after having grown up in the industry. By that time, the business had grown to include four stores. Baker continues to share ownership with Welborn, whose father passed away in 2010. The two went into business together to open B&W Foods, with their first Piggly Wiggly opening in 1998 in Northport, Alabama. “We all make our name and live off our reputations, but there’s just some brands and things that stand a little taller than we ever can.” “One thing my dad used to preach – which I do today – is the value of the Piggly Wiggly brand,” Welborn said. In fact, Welborn said his father convinced Baker to switch from his previous distributor to PWADC. During that time, he met Ronnie Baker, a longtime friend and customer of Piggly Wiggly. His late father worked his way up from a retail counselor to director of store development. His father, Jimmy, the founder of B&W, had previously worked for the distributor beginning in 1980. Welborn, co-owner of B&W Foods in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has partnered with PWADC for 23 years. has been a part of Jay Welborn’s entire life. Battery life varies by use and configuration. The Roll20 version of the Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition Monster Manual expands the Roll20 Compendium to include all content from the book. The monsters contained herein are culled from the D&D game’s illustrious history, with easy-to-use game statistics and thrilling stories to feed your imagination. A monstrous feast for Dungeon Masters ready to challenge their players and populate their adventures. In the mid-to-late 14 th century DR, several evil spellcasters-including the phaerimm, the beholder mages of Ooltul, and a number of evil wizards-devised similar methods at the same time for creating mutated gazers. The Monster Manual presents a horde of classic Dungeons & Dragons creatures, including dragons, giants, mind flayers, and beholders. This was easier to do if the spellcaster was a bully, who made constant use of his powers in an oppressive matter. They could also bond with spellcasters of other races but were very hard to magically control or tame. They might also create small holes within their lairs to make it easier for the gazers to move around. Society īeholders found the antics of gazers amusing and would often keep them as pets. Wild gazers made use of their ray of frost to hunt. Vestiges of the gazer's psyche had some influence on the receiver of this surgery. This was done to turn said creature into an ocular adept, the only divine casters of the Great Mother who weren't beholders themselves. The process killed the gazer, in a sense. A gazer's eye could be transplanted into a humanoid by a beholder surgeon. They could also be created via a magical process by beholder mages (although the process could be mimicked by others). Ecology Ī gazer was "born" out of a beholder's feverish dreams, in which its perception of scale and perspective was warped by its delirium. Gazers also had the ability to mimic any speech they heard, repeating it in a high pitched tone. Eyeballs working as familiars could have one of their rays converted into a spell ray, capable of delivering touch spells as rays. Beholders were capable of seeing out of the creatures' eyes and would sometimes give them to spellcasters for their own nefarious purposes. When working in a pack, some would keep enemies distracted with daze rays, while others shot at targets with frost rays. They lacked a central eye ability and could only fire two beams at once. The four eyestalks of gazers could cause effects similar to the spells cause fear, daze, mage hand, and ray of frost. On the rare occasion gazers worked together in a pack, they would team up against larger creatures, and become much more dangerous. Larger creatures who entered their territory were pestered and bothered until they left, although they would flee if challenged. Wild gazers, after losing or being driven off by their creators, were territorial nuisances who hunted for small game in their area. They preyed on and bullied any creature weaker than them. They could not be tamed by other people and would violently fling people away who tried to touch them. They were not violent towards each other and were capable of cooperation. Gazers would follow their creators around like aggressive puppies, stalking their lairs looking for vermin to kill. They possessed only four eyestalks rather than ten, and were only 8 inches (20 centimeters) across. Gazers resembled the beholder who had dreamed them into being with only minor differences. 1 Star Rating: Blood Orange Slice Clock (S75,200) Orange Wall Calendar (S45,000) Red Potted Lemon Plant (S99,500) Black Fruit Tower (S74,000) Orange Print Dining Table (S60,000) Black Toddler High Chair (S49,500) Red Hanging Apron Corner (S75,000) Fruity Black Fridge (S107,500) Red Fruit Juice Dispenser (S65,000) Black Granite Sink (S92,500) Melon Triple Box Seating (S935,000) Melon Quad Box Seating (S1,000,000).0 Star Rating: Melon Geometric Hanging Lamps (S66,000) Grape Geometric Hanging Lamps (6SP) Black Hallway Buffet Table (S75,000) Mahogany Hallway Buffet Table (7SP) Black Granite Benchtop (S50,000) Black Granite Benchtop Corner (S50,000) Black Granite Bench Shelf (S67,500) Black Granite Shelf Corner (S67,500) Tan Granite Benchtop (5LP) Tan Granite Benchtop Corner (5LP) Tan Granite Bench Shelf (6LP) Tan Granite Shelf Corner (6SP).Outfits and shoes for male and female preteen sims SimChase Season 60: Citrus Clash! A navigation system and a wireless charging pad for cellphones are optional for the Premier. If you get the Driver Confidence 2 package, you can also spring for adaptive cruise control and an upgraded automatic emergency braking system. The Driver Confidence 2 package for the Premier trim (requires the Driver Confidence package) adds forward collision warning with automatic low-speed emergency braking, lane departure warning and intervention, and adaptive headlights. A Driver Confidence package is available for the LT and Premier trims and it includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The faster 7.2-kWh onboard charging system is available as a stand-alone option for the LT. Move up to the Volt Premier and you get the LT's equipment, the contents of the Comfort package, the Bose audio system, plus different 17-inch wheels, a 7.2-kWh onboard charger (which speeds up charging time), an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated rear outboard seats, a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat with two-way lumbar adjustment, and an automated parking system (parallel and perpendicular). An eight-speaker Bose audio system is available as a stand-alone option. Leather upholstery can be ordered with the LT Comfort package as well. Optional for the LT is a Comfort package that includes heated mirrors, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel. Notable technology features for the Volt are a reconfigurable driver information and gauge cluster display screen, Bluetooth, OnStar (with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity), an 8-inch central touchscreen interface, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio. Standard feature highlights for the Volt LT include 17-inch wheels, a 3.6-kWh onboard charger, LED headlights (low-beam) and taillights, keyless entry and ignition, remote start, 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks, automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Note that while we tested a 2016 Volt, most of our observations apply to the 2019 model as well. Is it the right car for you? Read our Chevy Volt long-term test to find out. We learned this over the course of a two-year test that logged nearly 29,000 miles of city driving and road-trip range testing. It has impressive all-electric range and transitions smoothly from battery to engine power. Plug-in hybrids have a limited customer base, but the Volt will likely please interested buyers. But in the end, we wouldn't be surprised if you landed on the 2019 Chevrolet Volt. There are some appealing competitors to look at, such as the Kia Niro Plug-In, the Honda Clarity Plug-In and the Prius Prime. All together, these changes help the Volt maintain its high ranking for a plug-in hybrid. The Volt's interior also has a new infotainment interface and an optional power-adjustable driver's seat. Compared to the existing 3.6-kWh unit, this higher capacity charger cuts 240-volt charging times in half, to about 2.3 hours to completely recharge. One notable upgrade this year is the Volt's newly optional 7.2-kWh onboard charger. It accelerates quickly, brakes well and even handles well on curvy back roads. The Volt is also surprisingly good to drive. Fill it up with gas, drive until you run out, then fill it up again and keep on moving. After that, it's like any other hybrid on the road.
